My thoughts when I got the call that Katie went by ambulance
to the hospital
“Oh, good. NOW we’ll be able to get her some real treatment.”

Me to Katie’s father and priest in hospital room when told,
“We lost her”
     “Those f___ing b_____ds!!!!”

Grandfather
“Didn’t she know we all loved her?”

A group of Katie’s friends...
...went to Katie’s gravesite on July 8, her birthday, and sang
“Happy Birthday” and put seashells on her grave.

Nick, Katie’s boss
“She was like a daughter to me.”

Mr. Joe Fanning, Katie’s former & long-time field hockey coach
“I always admired her for her determination.  She was such a
fighter.   I always kept a place in my heart for her.”

Katie’s second cousin, David
“I loved Katie, Every time I saw her, she made me smile.”

An e-mail response to my sister
“Mental health care is extremely inadequate, and it's just
appalling that your sister and family have to relive all of this,
knowing that something that might  have saved her life, was
     withheld  from her.”

Katie’s “boyfriend” upon learning of her death
    “Oh, bummer.”
